Love Languages from the Originator

Great NYT article about love languages.

If you don’t know what the five love languages are, here they are:

  1. words of affirmation (verbal compliments)
  2. quality time (doing something together and being focused in that moment)
  3. receiving gifts (anything from a spontaneous bouquet of flowers to more significant presents)
  4. acts of service (helping your partner with chores or cooking a meal)
  5. physical touch (holding hands, sex and everything in between)

It shares a little bit about the ideas and why the original author feels they have been so persistent.

When you think about it, it is pretty amazing that they’ve lasted for so long. Maybe they map to something enduring and super basic in people.

The other thing that’s really impressive about these is how powerful they are.

Who hasn’t felt the warmth of a compliment, or a gift, or even more deeply, being really listened to and understood.
